Sandra S McRae

Sandra S. McRae writes about nature and domestic complexities, the political and the divine, food, and hunger of all kinds. Her books include The Magic Rectangle (Folded Word) and Weber's Big Book of Grilling (Chronicle). Sandra’s poetry has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, and she has been nominated for a Pushcart prize.

Sandra earned a graduate degree in Creative Writing from the University of Colorado-Boulder and bachelor degrees in English in French at Colorado State University. She studied for a year in Bordeaux, France, and was a Fulbright Scholar for a year in Germany—back when it was still divided. In Europe she majored in wine and beer, with a minor in travel.

For twenty years Sandra was a freelance marketer and writer, helping conscientious companies sell wholesome merchandise to intelligent consumers. One of those companies was Weber Grills, where she co-authored a bestselling cookbook with chef Jamie Purviance. Sandra switched careers to teaching in order to make a bigger impact on the future. Jury is still out on what kind of impact that will be, but she’s optimistic she isn’t making anything worse.

Currently Sandra lives in the mountains and teaches creative writing, literature, and composition at a college near Denver, Colorado. Visit Sandra at www.WordsRunTogether.com. Please remove your shoes before entering the site. She probably just vacuumed.
