Debby Detering

Debby Detering discovered her grandfather's journal, written on the S.S. San Juan in 1914 between Panama and San Francisco. Family letters revealed a gathering in Cuba in 1907 and her grandfather's experience working in Panama. The letter writers' quotations from poets and references to Civil War history, Captain Eads, Dr. Wiley, the grounded ship Sosostres, Central American geology, and the homes and habits they observed in Central American ports, fascinated Debby and enhanced the family travelogue.

Debby's previous book is Three Tales: God With Us, a collection of fantasies or parables exploring how God might appear among us.

Debby's main writing interest in writing--not yet displayed in publication--is middle grade and YA fiction.
