Nneka Edwards

Nneka Edwards is a Trini-Canadian writer (and a prolific one at that!) who specializes in both poetry and prose. Indeed Nneka wears many hats - poet, author, artist and linguist. She speaks several languages (English being her mother tongue) including Spanish, French and Mandarin Chinese. All of these diverse elements are woven into many of her books in a beautiful, seamless, easy-reading kind of way. The themes of her work span a broad range, with something unique and inviting for every age group - for boys and girls, teens, men and women.

Nneka was born in Canada, grew up in Trinidad and Tobago (in the southern Caribbean) and spent many years in the Far East (Taiwan, South Korea and Japan) where she either studied or worked. Nneka has been writing poetry as a hobby since 2001 and has keenly honed her poetry-writing skills since that time. She is a self-taught poet who has carved out her own niche by penning pieces that the average reader can both perfectly understand and thoroughly enjoy. Her literary style is light, simple (but not simplistic) and refreshingly colorful and 'more-ish' (i.e. making readers want to read more and more).

Nneka is also a self-taught artist who illustrates her own work with beautifully whimsical images, many of which are hand-done or handcrafted. Paper collage is her signature medium, but she also works with watercolors, markers, pens, oil pastels, crayons, and colored pencils. Many of her books are a visual treat!
