Michael Green (MichaelGreenArts.com) holds a BA degree from NYU, attended film school, studied at the University of São Paulo in Brazil, and hitchhiked into the Amazon. He worked on germinal light shows with Timothy Leary before moving to the Catskills to live in a tipi and start a meditation center in Woodstock, New York. He lived with the venerable Sufi master Bawa Muhaiyaddeen in Philadelphia and Sri Lanka for 14 years.
He celebrates the sacred in all his work, including: books and calendars; mixed media fine art; and indoor and outdoor installations. Green's books, including The Unicornis Manuscripts, The Illuminated Rumi, and The Illuminated Prayer, have more than 2.5 million copies in print. He collaborated with his artist wife Saliha on his most recent book, The Illuminated Hafiz (Sounds True, Nov. 12, 2019).
His recent installation work, Spirit of Place, created with old barn siding, acrylic, mirrors, and gold leaf draws on 3 sources: deep Sufi inspiration; the folk arts of his home in the Brandywine Valley; and the ancient Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi.
