Debra Groves Harman lived in Cambodia from 1994 - 2001, working as an ESL teacher and then establishing a publishing company, Canby Publications, Ltd. with her then-husband. She worked as a US Embassy Warden during the 1997 "factional fighting," also know as the coup in Phnom Penh. Tanks, gun battles, and active Khmer Rouge are part of her story, a tale of loss and love.
Those who have lived in Cambodia will love her memoir, and armchair travelers and history buffs will appreciate it too, along with anyone who's known the pain of loss, especially traumatic loss.
D. Groves Harman has taught secondary English for several years, and is now a substitute teacher. She has a BA in English Literature from University of Oregon (1990, Magna Cum Laude) as well as an M.Ed. from Portland State University. This is her first book.
Her creative nonfiction has been published in the following magazines and journals:
Miracle Monocle
Not Your Mothers Breast Milk (Not kidding! but I love this magazine)
The Write Launch
OJAL: Open Journal of Art and Letters
