Don’t you just love the zany rhyme of Dr. Seuss? I do!
When my daughters were little, many of my favorite books to read to them were books with rhyme. I had fun reading stories that had imaginative words and rhythm, where I could be animated and exuberant as I read. The question was, why hadn’t anyone written Bible stories in a way that was as fun and captivating? Bible stories are some of the most amazing stories ever told!
I ended up teaching a Sunday School class of very wiggly 4-5 year olds. How could I get their attention? Nothing seemed to be working. One Sunday I drew a few pictures to go with a Bible story I had recreated in fun and bouncy rhyme inspired by – you guessed it – Dr. Seuss. As I read, those little wrigglers turned into listeners and gigglers!
Since then I have read to lots of wigglers, and it is my great joy to say that they also turn into listeners and gigglers.
My desire and mission now is to introduce a new generation of kids to the wonders of Old Testament Bible stories. It is more important than ever, since more kids than ever are not hearing these incredible stories about our awesome and loving God.
