Abram Taylor

A lifelong resident of rural Kentucky, I spent countless hours of my boyhood (and young adulthood) immersed in the dreamworlds of horror, SF, and fantasy fiction. As I did back then, I favor richly crafted stories of a stand-alone nature, and now strive to produce them myself; I passionately believe that the "endless series / massive tomes" model drives many would-be fans away and saps the lifeblood from all sub-genres of the fantastic. I'm also convinced that older books (from the 1980s back into the 19th century) have far more to teach us about good, clear writing than newer ones.

My fiction takes the rule-based, "nuts 'n' bolts" approach of modern fantasy and infuses it with some of the woolliness of fireside fairy tale. Working hard to maintain an atmosphere you can carve with a steak knife, I seldom overlook an opportunity to launch into the sort of loving grotesquery that was the bread and butter of classic weird fiction authors like Lovecraft, Howard, and Merritt -- but at the same time, I can't help indulging in humor, particularly of the absurd, Sandler-esque variety . . .
