Ernest Porter

I am a positive, intelligent, forward-thinking, engaging, and provocative person. My friends say I am handsome and charming, as well. I like cats and dogs and squirrels. Oh, yes. And human beings. I was born at City Hospital on Cleveland's west side, so long ago, I can't even remember. For people who insist on knowing my age, my response is "What you see, is what you get." (Flip Wilson) As a youngster I enjoyed observing nature, climbing the neighbor's apple tree and making immense snowmen in wintertime. I loved books and would walk for inordinately long distances to the local Cleveland Public Library. My favorite book when I was very young was "Alice In Wonderland." There was something about that crazy white rabbit with the watch that intrigued me to no end. All the characters stuck in my mind like wallpaper. Reading was my way of escaping the severe poverty of my youth. My imagination could go to places and see and experience things in books that had no equal in reality; hence, my being a writer of fiction, as an adult. I attended Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio and matriculated at Columbia College in New York City. I did not close a degree at Columbia for a myriad of reasons, not the least of which was that I ran out of scholarship funds. I returned to Cleveland without making my dream of becoming a physician come true. I attended Tri-C Metropolitan College where I completed two associate degrees; an Associate of Arts Degree and an Associate of Science degree. I was designated a National Dean's List Scholar and later worked variously as a laboratory technician and a chemist at a water treatment company. A wise man once told me to "be careful what you wish for." I have met several practicing physicians who related to me that if they had it to do it over again, they'd choose a different path. Lucky for me my path detoured from what I thought I wanted to be to where I am. That youngster who loved to read; who taught himself to read and to write, turned out just as he should have. Rich, poor, successful or not, I am thankful for my talent as a writer and would not have it any other way. In addition to penning novels like "13.0.0.0.0 (Journey To The Center Of Time)," I am also a screenwriter. I am single. I am mostly a solitaire person with a small set of close friends. If you need to know even more, then participate in my blog. I look forward to interacting with people who read my work.

Thank you.
