Chris Cortis was born in New Hampshire in 1985, only one year after the events of George Orwell’s telling novel.
Not wanting to commit to any career choices early in life, Chris coasted through all forms of schooling up through two years of college. To avoid the high cost of tuition (and fees; don’t forget about the fees), he joined the United States Navy, and served on a submarine as a nuclear mechanic.
Once discharged, and armed with a solid dose of real life, Chris went back to school and graduated with a B.S. in physics. Thinking that he could change the world with his intuition and perception, he then went to graduate school. He spent three years trying to keep up, and studied astrophysics, nanotechnology, and then astrophysics again.
Towards the end of graduate school he got married and had his first child, and upon graduating with an illustrious M.S. in physics, he served barbeque at a charming restaurant and taught physics classes at a community college.
Through the combination of military experience and a graduate degree, Chris found work in the field of government contracting and nuclear testing, which is not nearly as destructive as it sounds, and so far has involved no one-on-one time with nuclei.
After delving into the philosophy of sentient artificial intelligence in order to figure out where society was going, he wrote his first novel, 2100: Faith of the Machine.
He is now writing a follow-up novel entitled 2100: War for Sentience.
Concurrently, Chris is also working with the Scandinavian metal band Fluid Hammer on a concept album about the 2100 series. Due to recent personnel changes, Chris is now the lead vocalist and guitarist of Fluid Hammer.
Chris lives in what will someday be coastal South Carolina with his wife, 2.5 children, and an untrainable miniature dachshund named Lily.
