EC Shaw

After living in Brussels, Belgium, for his younger years, EC’s family moved to Northern California, where he was lucky enough to live in a home with a creek in his backyard. A lifelong nature lover, the memories of playing in the creek with his neighborhood friends were the inspiration for The Creek Series. “Pauly's Adventure” (2019) and “Pauly’s Great Escape” (2025) came from his thought that there must have been times when they disrupted the creatures’ peaceful habitat by innocently throwing a rock to splash a friend. “The Creek” is loosely based on these childhood memories.

EC Shaw is also the author and illustrator of “Oscar the Little Rescue Dog” (2020). Oscar is a story about the littlest puppy from a litter of famous search and rescue dogs. His dogged determination helps him overcome his shortcomings. It’s a message of believing in yourself, even when others do not.

When he’s not writing and illustrating he enjoys golfing, playing guitar, and hiking in nature with his wife, son, and their perfect "super mutt," Ella.

Did you know EC is short for Eric Charles? He was named Eric for his Swedish heritage and Charles after his late grandfather, Charles Shaw.
