I was born and live in south-east England with my partner Rachel and our dogs. Writing short stories, essays and novels, I try not to be too restricted by genre. I have been an avid collector of other people's anecdotes throughout my life, and Rachel will tell you to be careful what you say to me as you will run the risk of finding it given to one of my characters, embellished, and written down for all to see. And she should know: many of her own factual tales have later turned up as fiction.

If am not writing, or listening to and playing music, then I am reading. My mother always said that if there was nothing else available to read at the breakfast table, then I would read the back of the cornflake packet.
