Why "TAXES are EASY" for me!

Since I took my first H&R Block income tax course in 2012, the process of completing a tax return has come very easily for me. The tax laws and how they are expressed on a tax return, just make sense to me. I enjoy immensely helping Individual taxpayers “solve” their yearly tax scenario, whether in person with my own clients, or “virtually” through my yearly seasonal job as a TurboTaxLive® Expert.

I grew up in a small town in Indiana, but have lived in New York City since 1985. My first career was in Architecture and Construction. I began the pursuit of this second tax preparation career in late 2012. I became an IRS licensed Enrolled Agent in 2016. I have had the privilege to assist thousands of clients and tax customers since 2012, working for H&R Block for my first 4-years, having my own small tax practice the last eight years, and working the last eight years for Intuit as one of their Credentialed Tax Experts for TurboTaxLive®.

I wrote my first book to explain 41 of the 2018 tax year changes that can affect an Individual tax return, as a result of the major tax law changes passed in late 2017, called the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" TCJA, signed by President Trump on Dec. 22nd, 2017. So many clients and customers I helped in 2019, did not have a working familiarity with these new tax law changes. This book explained why your 2018 tax return changed so much that year. It also is a great resource for future tax years, as most of the TCJA changes are in effect through to the 2025 tax year.

The second edition of that book was revised for the 2019 tax year changes, and added a new chapter to explain cryptocurrencies and the tax implications when you earn, invest in, receive, sell or spend those cryptocurrencies. That chapter on cryptocurrencies has now expanded into my new book.

The 3rd edition of my third book published on 2/17/2025 is an in-depth explanation of “Cryptocurrency and Taxes.” The first six chapters explain Bitcoin, Altcoins and the monetary factors that gave rise to Bitcoin's creation and continued success. The last four chapters explain how the IRS categorizes and taxes cryptocurrencies in the U.S. and how to report those on a U.S. tax return. 28 cryptocurrency transaction types are explained, then demonstrated in a "real world" 2024 tax return case study completed in TurboTax Desktop® software. There is an extensive Definitions and Acronyms section and an Appendix that explains in great detail the 32 reference books and 34 crypto industry influencers I studied for the book. You can download the PDF of the case study and a “live footnote” PDF file that has the internet hyperlinks for all the footnotes in the book.

Thank you for allowing me to help make these tax matters more accessible and understandable for you. I appreciate your feedback on these books, so I can improve future editions and the new books I will author in the future.
