Merry Goodman

Hi! I’m Merry Goodman.

I love to write contemporary and inspirational romance short stories and novellas, thirty-minute to two-hour reads, sweet romances. I put some sizzle into them but like to leave room for imagination. Life has sizzle in it, why not a story? For someone who hated English in high school and University, I sometimes wonder how I got here. Fortunately, I have an excellent cadre of Beta Readers and Editors to help me perfect my tales.

I have always had an interest in love stories, movies, Hallmark Channel or whatever, and I weep at “Happy Ever After” endings, even when I write them. For two years, I wrote love stories for my amusement. A best friend asked me one day, “What are you doing at the computer all the time. Are you writing a book?” My response was a non-committal one, but a week later, while driving, I had to confess, “I’m not writing a book, I’ve written eighteen.”

Needless to say, shock ensued. I let some of my friends read them, and they encouraged me to publish. As I found out, writing was the easy part; I can write a novella in maybe a week if I focus on it. Editing and all the publishing necessities take longer, much longer, involve others, and cost more.

But, to me, writing is fun. It lets my imagination run, connecting people and allowing them to find love where before there may have been nothing. Often, I use what is happening in my life as idea seeds; something tiny can spark an idea. When an event occurred in my life a while ago, a good friend commented, “A book will come out of that.” She was not far wrong. Attending the Messiah at the Minneapolis Basilica at Christmas generated the idea for Found at the Messiah, book #2 of my seven-book series: You Found Me and Loved Me. I envisioned the book as I listened to the music.

I’ve had animals on four acres: horses, dogs, cats, one named Max who emitted horrific gas if hugged, chickens and some hilarious ducks, Indian Runners, which ran rather than waddled. Now, in the city, I have only four house plants and a ginormous sugar maple tree outside for squirrels and birds.

I hope you enjoyed reading one of my books. If you did, please consider leaving a review on Amazon, Goodreads, or Bookbub. Positive reviews and word-of-mouth recommendations make such a difference as they encourage authors, and more importantly, help other readers find the tales they want to read. Every review, no matter how short or simple, is very much appreciated! Thank you so much!

If you want to write to me directly, I would love to hear from you. For now, the best is to email me at author.merry.goodman@gmail.com. When I have your email, I will add you to my contacts list. Then I can let you know about free books and other goodies when they are available.

Do you want to write? Does your imagination flow with an event in your life? Well, start. Write out an outline with your idea, add in some significant scenes of how the story could go, then flesh it out. The Hollywood Model for love stories is tried and true. The Encounter, the relationship buildup, a disaster which drives them apart for a time, a reunion and on to happy-ever-after. It is fun to see the story emerge. Write with abandon, but then let professionals edit with a machete. Trust them and keep at it. Who knows what might come from a simple beginning?
