Born in Manila, Philippines, migrated in Ontario, Canada since 1987, acquired three different skills in three different disciplines: Civil, Structural Engineering and Architecture. Started working as construction labourer at the age of 16 at Concept Builders, Inc. based in Manila, Philippines. The Project Engineer of the company has given and helped me to enrol the 5-years Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering program where I easily completed and landed a position in the capacity as Civil Engineer in the very same company. The company designs and builds subdivision projects for the government. Subdivision project is a pure Civil Engineer's work as it includes the design of water main and distribution, sewerage disposal, subdivision roadways, bridges and structural designing for up to 5 storey buildings.
Most importantly is the surveying part of the subdivision: 1. Location of points for individual blocks or units including all the elevations, the sub-grading and the actual placement of the subdivision on the ground in terms of building orientation - there is no other Engineering disciplines on the face of the earth that can do this correctly and appropriately other than Civil Engineering.
At present time my favourite things to do is in the line of Architecture as I am an excellent drafter - designer and love to draw in either manual or in AutoCad, however, my all time favourite is the challenge of mathematical and analytical calculations.
All of past Civil Engineering Companies that I have worked for, almost no one will take on the responsibility to design the foundation structure in reinforced concrete building, except myself. Foundation design is very complicated to do since there is almost no room for errors, and there is no guessing game allowed.
The second item that my fellow Civil Engineers tried to make an excuse not to do the analysis - is the Earthquake load analysis.
I know the reason why they tried to avoid it, simply because, in Earthquake load analysis covers all the calculations and structural analyses. It is a very tedious and time consuming to do. I have no other choices than to do it.
I ultimately championed the design of all reinforced concrete structural members.
When Python programming becomes popular, I decided to program all calculations using Python language. You can only do the structural programming when you are well-verse structural designer at the same time.
My knowledge in Python programming makes my life easier in the event when there is a very large mathematical calculations and needed to be done very quickly more especially the necessary calculations for structural designing.
I was able to program the following:
1. Moment distribution method of calculations.
2. The Earthquake Load Analysis
3. Quadratic Formula
4. Design of Column
5. Complete Preliminary Design of reinforced concrete structure.
