Temple Drake

Temple Drake is the pen name of the writer Rupert Thomson, who has published thirteen critically acclaimed novels and an award-winning memoir.

'NVK' is the first book Thomson has published under a pseudonym. The novel might feed off the vampire genre and possess the velocity of a thriller, but for Thomson it is as much a work of literary fiction as anything else that he has written. "My books are like jackdaws," he says. "They might steal from a genre, but they don't obey its rules".

'NVK' was an Amazon Best Book of the Month in November 2019. In the same month, it was selected by the BBC as one of their Ten Books to Read, and was described as "supercharged and genre-mixing".

'NVK' was also chosen by Apple Books as one of its Top 10 Debut Novels of the Season. Apple Books said "Drake writes in a deliberately minimalist style that is as spare and elegant as Scandinavian furniture...Mysterious and bewitching..." while the Guardian called 'NVK' "glitteringly baroque" and "urgently modern".
