Aaron S Gross, PhD is an Associate Professor at the University of San Diego, the founder and CEO of the nonprofit advocacy group Farm Forward, and a past President of the Society of Jewish Ethics. Aaron was trained as a historian of religions specializing in the study of Jewish traditions at Harvard University and University of California, Santa Barbara. He is active in the leadership of the Animals and Religion Group of the American Academy of Religion and has been widely cited as an expert on food and religion in popular venues such as The New York Times and The Washington Post. His monograph, The Question of the Animal and Religion: Theoretical Stakes, Practical Implications (Columbia University Press 2015), and recent co-edited book, Feasting and Fasting: The History and Ethics of Jewish Food (New York University Press 2019), have established him as expert in the emerging subfields of both animals and religion, and food and religion.
