Peter Purchase

Peter Purchase is an Australian writer of Historical Fiction. His goal is to make each of his novels an entertaining and memorable read, supported by deep research. He has refreshed and rewritten his debut novel The Albatross Necklace, and is republishing it as The Truth And Reconciliation Trilogy

Book I, The Glass Cenotaph, is motivated by an awareness of issues around the colonisation of Australia and its damaging effects on Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islander peoples.

Book II, The Life And Times Of Gerrit de Waal, arises out of his fascination for the sea and his interest in voyages of exploration during the Dutch Golden Age, 1600-1750. He focuses on the last voyage of the Zuytdorp, wrecked on the West Australian coast in 1712.

In Book III, Alicia, he explores the complexities of personal relationships in a cross-cultural environment. This book is still in progress.

Born and educated in East Africa, he relocated to Perth in Western Australia in 1963. He draws on a lifetime living and working alongside Indigenous people in Kenya and Aboriginal First Nations People in Australia and Papua New Guinea in his books.
