William P. Cassidy

Bill Cassidy is professor and chair of the Department of Journalism in the School of Journalism and New Media at the University of Mississippi. He is the author of three books "Sports Journalism and Women Athletes: Coverage of Coming Out Stories" (Palgrave Macmillan, 2019), "Sports Journalism and Coming Out Stories: Jason Collins and Michael Sam" (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017), and "Iran and the American Media: Press Coverage of the 'Iran Deal' in Context" (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021), with Mehdi Semati and Mehrnaz Khanjani. His scholarship has appeared in venues such as "Communication & Sport," "Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly," "Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication," "International Journal of Communication," "Newspaper Research Journal," and "Journal of Sports Media." Cassidy earned a Ph.D. in Communication and Society from the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon, and previously worked for more than a decade as a correspondent and columnist for "Daily Racing Form," a leading publication in the Thoroughbred horse racing industry.
