Barbara L. Philipp

Barbara L. Philipp, MD, is a pediatrician, breastfeeding expert, and Professor of Pediatrics at Boston University School of Medicine. As Pediatric Medical Director of the Mother Baby Unit at Boston Medical Center for more than a decade, Dr. Philipp estimates she has cared for more than 20,000 newborns.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, Dr. Philipp is a firm believer in the importance of breastfeeding for the mother and her baby. She is also acutely aware of how difficult breastfeeding can be for many women. Now she's on a mission to empower new mothers and fathers with the information they need to make informed decisions about what to look for in a hospital, how to start breastfeeding, and how to keep it going.

Dr. Philipp has published numerous articles and lectures nationwide on breastfeeding related- topics. She is the author of an on-line breastfeeding training program that, in the two years since publication, has been viewed by over 1000 doctors, midwives and nurse practitioners. She also consults with maternity hospital leaders from around the country to help them recognize and correct outdated practices.

Known to friends as Bobbi, Dr. Philipp lives in Lexington Massachusetts with her husband Vince. They have three children, twins Nick and Abby and older daughter, Jess, whose pregnancy served as the impetus for The Breastfeeding Blueprint.
