Justin Rossow

Justin Rossow (b. 1972) was born in Flint, MI and inherited a love of language, literature, performance, and theology early on. With generations of church workers in his family and formative experiences living abroad, Justin combines a heart for God's people with an understanding of culture and communication. Putting his background in English, Music, and Theater to good use, Justin began a career of service in the church, first as a Director of Worship and Music and later as a parish pastor. Along the way, he also earned a Masters of Divinity as well as PhD in Theology and Culture. The focus of his doctoral work centered on conceptual metaphor theory and how metaphor shapes the way we understand and imagine our everyday lives. His heart for next step discipleship grew out of decades of service trying to help people delight in taking a small next step following Jesus. J

In 2019, Justin left full-time parish ministry to found Next Step Press and the Next Step Community, ministries that focus on creative and innovative experimentation to impact real people in meaningful ways. He is a two-time winner of the BIBA® Award for best independently published book in the Christian category. Since 2025, Justin has served as Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Arcadia, Michigan.

Justin writes, presents, teaches, and preaches at the intersection of Scripture, culture, and metaphor theory. With 20 years of ministry experience focused especially on discipleship, Justin brings a refreshing and encouraging voice to the adventure of helping people delight in taking a next step. Justin is known for his insight and energy, and writes like he talks: with humor, humility, and profound dependence on Jesus.
