The Story Of John Buell &
Save A Life Emergency Training TM
My introduction to emergency response started with an airplane crash near my home. I was driving down Drew Street in Clearwater, FL and I noticed off to my right an airplane had tangled up in the power lines and slammed into a house.
I rushed over to help wearing flip-flops, shorts and a t-shirt. There was glass everywhere. I tiptoed over and around the power lines, walked past the sizzling plane engine and noticed that the house was on fire.
I didn’t know what to do and I put myself in serious danger. I was completely overwhelmed by this the tragedy and my inability to effectively help the injured. I just didn’t know what to do so I didn’t do anything effective.
Miraculously, nobody was seriously injured.
At that moment I made a promise to myself that I would get training for most emergencies so that I could really help and save a life if I ever needed to.
That very week I did a class on first aid consisting of some videos and discussion with the instructor. Good start but not enough.
I found about CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams) and did the basic disaster response course and got some great information, but it wasn’t enough either.
Next I started the Advanced CERT training and became CERT Trainer. Working in coordination with Pinellas County Emergency Management and Clearwater Fire and Rescue, I have successfully delivered the CERT program to hundreds of people.
The CERT training has 8 sections designed to teach students “Disaster Response”. Each section is assigned 3 hours. It is an extensive training course to prepare citizens to safely respond during a disaster. This was a much better course but it still didn’t do what I felt needed to be done to properly prepare an average citizen to handle common emergencies with speed and competence.
At that moment I decided to write a book and form a company that trained citizens rapidly, efficiently and thoroughly. Save A Life Emergency Training was born and is a very different program that can be done in 3 hours. It is a fast pace hands-on sequence of specific drills to train people to effectively save lives during an emergency.
Save A Life Emergency Training is a revolutionary hands-on educational program that empowers people to respond safely and effectively during a life-threatening situation.
