Nikki shares an incredible honest and insightful account of her personal story. I can really feel in the book the distress that she experienced. Her book is very compelling, and a perspective changing manual for those who are experiencing adversity and looking for empathy, encouragement and a path towards healing.

5.0 out of 5 starsInspirational journey through chaos and terror to healing and wholeness

Format: Kindle Edition

In this book, Nikki Engels shares a courageous journey through many trials and tribulations.

The author and her family were slammed by one challenge after another. Not only did she experience serious and mystifying health problems, but she and her husband also were subjected to a house fire, as an example. Though she suffered a variety of debilitating physical symptoms, the one that would have terrified me the most would have been the threat of blindness.

This book provides so much inspiration that I hardly know where to begin. Here are some of the lessons that jumped out at me:

* The author has an exemplary family. Her husband has been very supportive towards her, to be sure. They are a real team. But it goes beyond that. They are part of an extended family that functions as a team too. It was wonderful to read about that.

* The author was extremely methodical about recording information related to her health. The symptoms she was experiencing were so complex. She was consulting so many different medical practitioners, undergoing so many interventions, receiving results of so many tests. If she had not maintained a detailed binder in which she accumulated the avalanche of data, it would have been virtually impossible for her and her health care providers to navigate the complexity.

* The author displayed a proactive attitude towards the recovery and maintenance of her health.

* She approached her health holistically, addressing body, mind and spirit.

* Before I read this book, I already knew that the Standard American Diet was a disaster. I believe it's entirely appropriate that, when it is abbreviated, it reads SAD. But this book brought it home to me even more vividly. It is truly astonishing how interconnected the various systems in our bodies are and how important gut health is.

* The author's tenacity and perseverance served as an inspiring example to me.

At the end of the day, the lifestyle that Nikki Engels has carved out is an exemplary one for ANYONE to follow. You know the expression, "Use it or lose it." If we are fortunate enough to enjoy good health, we would do well to use our lives in such a way as to increase the chances of enjoying a great quality of life for many years to come.

But, if you are experiencing a health challenge, the road map that this book provides is second to none, in my opinion. If that is your situation, I HIGHLY recommend that you read this book.
