Mark Rues visited Japan for two weeks in April 2012 and came back with a book. An idea for a book, that is: one that demanded to be written.
Mark has had a life-long interest in the spiritual practices of meditation and contemplation. He immersed himself in Christian, Sufi, Hindu, and Chinese traditions. Along the way, he earned bachelor’s degrees in communication studies and electronic-engineering technology. He has steeped himself in the traditions of ancient wisdom while being keenly aware of the power of modern science. This journey led to the study and practice of Chinese Medicine.
This juxtaposition made him realize is it necessary to have a dialogue between east and west, but also between past and present. All these things fed his young adult novel Ride the Universe, which fans say “took me on a youthful journey of discovery and maturing,” blending “what is truth; what is fantasy and what is the difference.” Readers also describe it as “worth the read,” ”delightful,” that ”calls upon numerous spiritual traditions in his quest for the Ultimate Reality.”
Mark grew up reading the Hardy Boys, Robinson Crusoe, Siddartha by Herman Hesse, and watching Jonny Quest and is happy to bring his own youthful adventure novel to young people (and the young at heart) everywhere.
