Marcus D. Thomas was born in Prince Georges County, Maryland on July 1, 1992 to two loving parents, Haywood
Vaughn III and Wanda Thomas.
In the early years of Marcus’ adolescence, he saw the world as a grand adventure which sparked his creativity. He
began to capture the world in an infinite and adaptable perspective. This brought about his initiative to begin writing short
novels for children (never published) just for fun. While attending high school at Forestville Military Academy, Marcus
was introduced into a new style of writing that opened his mindset to the artistic universe of poetry.
During his senior year in high school, Marcus became acquainted with the formal understanding of poetry. His
language arts instructor challenged his familiar academic writing style by creating writing prompts for him that expanded
his thought process and overall understanding of structured poetry. With this new understanding of the formal writing
structure, Marcus began to indulge into the meaning and life of poetry and creative writing.
After high school Marcus took time off to explore various options in different career fields and put his poetry and
creative writing on hold. He worked as an educator in childcare, as an assistant for a private chef and as a contractor in
home improvement and repair. After working in various positions and gaining all the valuable skills and experience he
could, Marcus still couldn’t quite find his niche so he enrolled into Bowie State University. While in undergraduate school,
Marcus realized that there was a vast world of young people, from different areas of the world with different styles,
languages and cultures. Coincidently, this realization had inspired him to pick up his pen and begin writing again.
Although he was not able to finish college, he was able to grow in the realm of creative literary works with the help of his
advisers, faculty, and friends and personal experiences.
In 2019, Marcus self-published his first book of spoken word poetry titled, Love In the Eyes of The Author: A
Collection of Spoken Word Pieces, on Amazon.
