Gabriel Levine

Gabriel Levine is a writer, teacher, musician and theatre artist living in Toronto. His work looks at "experiments with tradition": how abandoned and suppressed collective practices can find new creative life in the present. He co-edited Practice, published in 2019 in the MIT/Whitechapel series Documents of Contemporary Art, and his book Art and Tradition in a Time of Uprisings will be published by MIT Press in spring 2020. He has released recordings on Constellation Records and other labels, and his puppet and object-theatre projects have toured North America, Europe, and the Middle East. He is co-curator of Toronto’s Concrete Cabaret, a showcase for experimental puppetry and object performance, and he is currently Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Drama Studies, Glendon College, York University.
