John E. Holloway

John E. Holloway was born in Hampton, Virginia in 1959. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1981. He was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant and served as an Assault Amphibian (LVTP7A1) platoon leader. In 1983 his platoon, then attached to Second Battalion, Eighth Marines, embarked on ships bound for Beirut. Along the way, the battalion was diverted to Grenada for an invasion. After a week on Grenada, the battalion headed for Beirut to relieve the Marine battalion there that had been badly damaged by a terrorist attack. After completing his active duty in 1984, Holloway attended George Mason University School of Law (now Antonin Scalia School of Law), where he served as the editor-in-chief of the Law Review. After graduating in 1987, Holloway clerked for a federal judge. He has practiced maritime law around the country since 1988. He has been published by the Tulane Maritime Law Journal, The Sewanee Review, Benedict on Admiralty, the George Mason University Law Review, and the Journal of Maritime Law and Commerce. His novel, APRICOTS, tells the story of Marines in combat in the early 80s.
