Alistair Hall

Alistair Hall is a historian and hill-walker from Yorkshire whose lifelong fascination with history, archaeology and the landscapes of Britain has shaped both his research and his writing.

Since his teenage years, he has combined a passion for local history with extensive exploration of the British countryside, travelling throughout the United Kingdom to study the sites, monuments and battlefields of Roman and post-Roman Britain. His detailed knowledge of ancient topography and settlement patterns has given him a unique perspective on one of the most turbulent periods in British history.

Alistair writes both nonfiction and historical fiction set in the centuries following the end of Roman rule in Britain.

In his nonfiction book, Searching for Arthur... Finding Arthwys: The Real Arthur in Dark Age Britain, he re-examines the historical evidence surrounding King Arthur and presents a new interpretation of the political and military landscape of fifth-century Britain.

His historical fiction series, Arthwys of the North, brings this era vividly to life through the stories of the northern dynasties, warlords and kingdoms that emerged during Britain's transition from Roman province to independent realms. The series currently includes The Genesis of Arthwys and The Rise of Arthwys.

When not researching the history and landscapes of Roman Britain, Alistair can often be found exploring the hills and valleys of northern England, visiting historic sites, and searching for new clues to Britain's post-Roman past.

He is currently working on a new novel centred on the life and legacy of Magnus Maximus.
