At age 25, frustrated by his father's unexpected death, complications with their newborn child, and pressures of graduate school, Dan turned to meditation. Nine years later, after meditating several months with a Dutch metaphysician, he experienced a spiritual awakening. He then spent a year following a guru who taught Kundalini yoga (see his book "The Secret Life"). Dan then turned to the spiritual principles and healing practices taught by Jesus, as revealed in the writings and recordings of Joel S. Goldsmith (see his book "Spiritual Healing by Meditation and Our Spiritual Self"). He included these spiritual practices in his life as a family man and as a professional with a PhD in environmental science as an expert witness. Today he participates with several World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM) groups and attends a Unity Church. He has taught meditation courses as a prison volunteer (see his book "Prison Prayer"). He enjoys practicing daily world healing work, often referred to as "world meditation," "world work," or simply "the work." He regards this as a work toward fulfilling the Lord's Prayer of "Thy will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven." In the Gospel of Thomas Jesus says "The Kingdom of God is spread out upon the earth, but people don't experience it." To perceive the KIngdom of God on earth, we learn to shift from living out from material sense to spiritual sense. This subject is the focus of his novel "The Healing House."
