Daniel Hoyer

Daniel Hoyer is Project Manager of Seshat: Global History Databank (seshatdatabank.info) and part-time Professor at George Brown College in the Centre for Preparatory & Liberal Studies. He is also Managing Editor for the online journal Cliodynamics: The Journal of Quantitative History and Cultural Evolution (https://escholarship.org/uc/irows_cliodynamics).

He holds a PhD in Classics from New York University, where he studied economic and social development in the high Roman Empire. Starting in 2014, he turned his attention to using quantitative and theory-driven methods to identify trends in global history. His current research employs comparative historical and social scientific methods to explore the causes and limiting factors to economic growth, societal development, and general well-being. In particular, he is interested in understanding the role of prosocial cultural traits in promoting equitable distribution of resources and limiting predatory activity in past societies.

Daniel Hoyer is based in his hometown of Toronto. He spends his days trawling the annals of the past for any lessons that could be of value to our current – and future – world. His full CV and list of publications are available at https://evolution-institute.academia.edu/DanielHoyer
