Bill Kiley is a retired Deputy Police Chief and also a retired Colonel from the U.S. Army. A native of Brooklyn, New York, Bill resides on Long Island, New York, with his wife of fifty-two years, Kathy. Among his academic credentials: two Master of Science degrees; graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia; and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. Mr. Kiley has been an adjunct professor of Criminal Justice at Suffolk County Community College and at Long Island University.
Mr. Kiley is a President Emeritus of the International Association for Property and Evidence, as well as the Past President of the New York State and Eastern Canada Chapter of the F.B.I. National Academy Associates.
As the grandfather of five grandchildren, Bill knows the powerful impact that children’s picture books can have on young minds. So, at seventy years of age, motivated by his heart and his head, Mr. Kiley decided to write a children’s picture book that addresses the plight of refugees and asylum seekers throughout the world. Bill hopes that the book will educate the young mind about refugees as well as creating understanding, empathy, and compassion for the tens of millions who have fled their homes. His book, Hope and Freckles: Fleeing to a Better Forest, is the first of a series. It is also available in Spanish.The second book, “Hope and Freckles: Learning to Live in a new land,” address the challenges of assimilation and acculturation in a new homeland.
