I first retired from writing at age 8 years. Sister Bernadette challenged us to write a story to be judged by our classmates. I asked myself “what would my readers like to hear about?” I still do that. I decided to write about a fluffy white kitten and walked away with the prize, a miraculous meddle or a holy card, and retired my pencil for another forty five years . I always made up stories in my head, some of them novel length but never showed them around.

After I had raised my 5 children and sent them to pursue their destiny I enrolled in classes at North Hennepin Community College. It was there that I discovered that my writing had merit. I chose the genre of the essay because I know a little bit about a lot of things so essays fulfill my urge to write. And I do not have to answer to Kinsey Milhone or Stephanie Plum to keep the ball in the air and what with Stebeck, Fitzgerald and Hemingway gone, who’s going to stop me now?
