Renhui grew up in the Hunan Province of China. After studying at Wuhan and Beijing universities, she came to the United States in 1990 to get her doctorate in American Literature at George Washington University, completing her dissertation on the poetry of T.S. Eliot by exploring his meditations on death through a Buddhist lens. Her background in Chinese poetry provides her with a unique foundation that has shaped her sense of that particular art form in the English language, guiding her into a deeper feeling and understanding of each word she places on the page.
Renhui has lived in Washington, D.C. for 30 years and enjoys hiking and dancing, as well as practicing qigong and yoga.
