Michael Guest was a barrister for much of his life and conducted 21 murder defences and thousands of other trials and hearings in the Family, Civil and Criminal Courts. He was a Dunedin City Councillor for five three-year terms, the Deputy Chairman Roper Committee on Violence in 1986/1987, appointed a District Court and Family Court Judge in May 1987, returned to legal practice two years later and has written many regular newspaper columns on legal issues. Mr Guest contributed 154 x 800-word columns entitled “Legally Speaking” for the Otago Daily Times for a period of over six years between 2003 and 2009. He was also the regular weekly host for seven years on a one-hour radio programme each Friday called “You and the Law”.
Mr Guest lives with his wife, Barbara in Wanaka in the middle of the Southern Lakes area, in the South Island of New Zealand. He has written two novels already loaded on to Amazon - “REASONABLE FORCE” and “WANAKA”.
