Rick Sheffer was raised in Emlenton, Pennsylvania, a small community in northwestern Pennsylvania. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Math and Physics from Clarion State College and an MBA from Michigan State University.
Upon graduation from Clarion, he enlisted in the United States Navy, commissioned Ensign and began Flight Training in Pensacola, FL. He voluntarily left the flight program and was assigned to CTF 77 (Commander Task Force 77) Staff, Vietnam, as a Communications Watch Officer while serving on the USS Constellation and the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carriers. He was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Junior Grade.
After his service in the Navy, he worked as an industrial sales executive for Grafo Colloids Corporation, Sharon, PA. In 1971 he co-founded Communique Advertising in South Bend, Indiana. Later he founded Sheffer Advertising and spent thirty-nine years providing advertising and market research services to industrial and consumer durable goods companies worldwide.
Rick retired in 2010 and has been traveling extensively with his wife of nearly 50 years, Ilene. He has two children, Garrett (Nicole) and Jolie (Daniel) and a grandson Benjamin. Ilene and Rick live in Edwardsburg, Michigan.
