Stephen W. Garner

Stephen Garner is a graduate of William Carey University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with Bachelor, Masters, and Doctoral degrees in Church Music. He has devoted his career to the practice, performance, and teaching of church music in both churches and universities. While teaching at William Carey University, he developed an avid interest in the Clarence Dickinson Collection housed in its library, which contains the music, letters, personal library, and memorabilia of perhaps the most influential American church musician in the early twentieth-century. That interest inspired him to spend twenty-eight years researching and writing the only biography of Dickinson. A member of the Hymn Society and the American Guild of Organists, he is retired as Assistant Professor of Music Emeritus from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. His interests include woodworking, fishing, and reading mysteries.
