Who am I and why should you care?

I have lived a professional life of working closely with children facing terminal cancer, with children who have been abused and neglected by those they trusted the most, with children who have struggled making their way through an education system that left them behind.

Today, I continue learning with my own young children. Through the years being with these children, I have taken note and learned a few things about them all. I have found that the most important thing I can do as someone who cares deeply for each one of these children is listen to their story. To truly listen to their story so that I can understand them in a way that allows me to connect with them. This helps to heal, to inspire, to empower a child to face this world with confidence and comfort.

My poems and stories particularly offer the opportunity for children to explore themselves and their world more deeply; to learn about empowerment, friendship, and purpose.

Along the way, if a story, a single line in a poem, or even one illustration entertains a child and makes them laugh, giggle, or wiggle uncontrollably, all the better. I will have done my job. And my cats might just look at me with pride, for once.
