Sarah Jones Decker is a visual storyteller based in the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. She is an award-winning photographer and published author. Decker has her MFA in Photography from Savannah College of Art & Design and a BA in Print Journalism from Virginia Tech. She thru hiked the A.T. in 2008 and again in sections ten years later for her first book The Appalachian Trail: Backcountry Shelters, Lean-tos and Huts. Sarah and her husband have owned and operated Root Bottom Farm since 2011. A passionate outdoorswoman, she is also a certified sawyer and trail maintainer with the Carolina Mountain Club. Her artistic practice is deeply rooted in place, community, and storytelling. A retired photography professor, she started working in wet plate collodion in 2024 and has a darkroom in the forest.
