David Cuffe

David Cuffe qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon, from Trinity College Dublin, in 1974. He started work in a small animal hospital practice in Sutton, Surrey and, after 4 years, moved to Kennington South London.

10 years later he was forced to sell up. After a brief spell in California he returned to the UK and opened a new practice in Stockwell, South London. 10 years after that, he had opened another practice in Clapham and, having lived in Clapham for some years at that point, he took over an existing practice in Abbeville Road, where he practiced for 25 years.

Along the way David set up hospitals in Mile End Road, Clerkenwell and in Camberwell, as well as other practices in Bermondsey, Brixton Hill and Mitcham. He also helped design the HAWS animal centre in Athens. David was also a founder member of the British Veterinary Union (BVU in Unite).

Retiring in 2019, David wrote How to Have a Dog. In early 2020, together with his wife and their lurcher, Ella, David moved to Somerset - just as the coronavirus pandemic struck. With two adult sons and two grandchildren, David is now writing a novel. For fun? He reads, writes, runs and cooks.
