Born in London as long ago as 1948, Richard escaped aged 5 with his parents and has lived in Sussex ever since. His career has included delivering newspapers for WH Smith, being an office boy for Lloyds Register of Shipping, running buses and coaches with Southdown and later Cedar Travel, being a Security and Theatre Manager for Hurst College and, some say, being a damn nuisance most of the time (though this didn't actually appear on his CV).
His hobbies and pastimes have been - and still are - Scouting, Guarding on the Bluebell Railway, bellringing, being an NCI watchkeeper, writing, navigating and caring for a canal boat, reading, and inaccurate DIY carpentry.
He believes that people are good and sensible until they prove themselves otherwise, and the characters in his books generally have that characteristic. He tries to keep his plots as believable as possible, though sometimes his imagination is seen to wander off on its own and have a good time.
He is married and lives in Seaford, Sussex.
