I am just like you. I want to be healthy and feel great. I've tried a lot of fad diets and explored the latest on gut health and supplements and gluten and at the end of the day, I discovered that staying out of wheelchair was a bit more important to me than any probiotic, vitamin or snake oil.
I also discovered that getting enough sleep at night was a pretty darn easy thing to accomplish in order to reap a ton of benefits to my overall health. I also discovered that exercise in any form or fashion, would help me immensely in everything I did and that good nutrition didn't require an advanced degree. You see, I work in public health and I know that the best things in the world are at our fingertips right now - from washing our hands to buckling our seat belts to wearing sunscreen. I discovered that it's really not that hard - but darn if we don't all screw them up from time to time. We go to the beach without a hat - we jump in the car and don't buckle up - we drink alcohol for the wrong reasons and yet shun the glass of water the waiter gives us for free!
So I began to write down my discoveries that are simply no secret at all. Some of them our mothers told us and some of them are just downright obvious. I am a writer and I have been writing for the last 20 years in magazines and newspapers and online. I absolutely love the written word. I went to school for communications and so writing a book was always a goal, but it wasn't until I discovered my own passion to help keep people healthy - that I decided to focus my attention on the things that anyone can do to stay out of wheelchair and free of tubes, monitors and pills as long as possible.
I'm glad I wrote the book Brainless Health, but that's only the beginning. It's time for all of us to put these principles into practice! Let's go forth together and get some health - without even thinking!
