I am a musician, a conductor to be more specific. When not working at my day job, I am also a fisherman, an amateur painter and chef, and curator of my own collections of art, antiques, and wine.
What brought you and me together here, however, is that I’ve written CONDUCTING OPERA: WHERE THEATER MEETS MUSIC. In this book, I aim to give useful advice to fellow conductors but, also, insights to avid opera fans. After an introduction about my approach to my work, I discuss 25 operas from Mozart to Richard Strauss: the conductor’s challenges and pitfalls, including how to support singers in their most challenging moments. You’ll find “step into my study” and “my favorite things” in each discussion.
A couple of years earlier, I also contributed to the anthology, DELIRIOUS NAPLES. My essay, “Opera and the Classical Tradition in Naples,” is a blend of history and personal reminiscences.
In any number of biographies, beginning with the basics on my web site, www.concertatore.com, you can read long lists of the people in my life and the orchestras, opera companies, and record labels with which I have been privileged to work. On my Amazon author page, the images under “Author Updates” are the covers of recordings that I have had the pleasure of conducting, most of which are available on amazon.com.
Thanks for checking out this page. You can also keep up with me on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. I hope you enjoy my work in all its forms as well as my social media presence.
