Eric Mullis

I am a choreographer, dancer, and philosopher always consider how these practices relate to each other. In my writing, I tend to focus on topics that cross disciplines, for example, the use of interactive technology by theater artists, how ecstatic dancing in religious contexts relates to contemporary dance, and how costuming used in dance performance pertains to everyday clothing. I enjoy doing deep dives into topics that I don't know much about and then writing and making performance work about them, topics like textile mill strikes in the Southern Piedmont in the 1920s, Shaker dance rituals, fashion design by Rei Kawakubo, and Chinese calligraphy.
