John D. Smatlak was born in 1956 in a mountainous area near Johnstown, Pennsylvania. After completing college, he relocated to a warmer climate in Virginia, where he lived for over forty years. Smatlak then moved to a Philadelphia suburb to be closer to family.
His first book, "Crossing the Schism", is the culmination of his two passions - Christianity and international travel. Visits to holy Christian sites around the world, family miracles, experience in a variety of Christian churches, and research, all result in a book that describes the Christian religion from a spiritual, historical and global perspective. Married couples from different Christian backgrounds, Sunday School teachers, new Christians, new Catholic converts, individuals from both Protestant and Catholic churches, and Bible study group leaders all find "Crossing the Schism" to be educational in a way that also strengthens their faith in Christ.
Smatlak's second book, titled "Mary's Call to Prayer", released in early 2021. Mary, the mother of Jesus, communicates twentieth century messages from heaven. Mary answers questions that many people ask today. She shares vivid details about heaven, hell, and purgatory. Mary explains how earthly life passes quickly, compared to eternal life in either heaven or hell. The mother of Jesus calls the faithful from all religions to pray every day.
