C.S. Watts was born in Yellowknife, NWT, Canada. His early years were spent along the Mackenzie River, from its start at Fort Providence to where it opens unto the Arctic Ocean, at Aklavik. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in Political Science, going on to further studies at Carleton and Johns Hopkins (SAIS). He spent his working life as a newspaper editor, diplomat, negotiator, speechwriter and advisor to ministers, premiers and prime ministers, from Ottawa, Ont. to Victoria, B.C., dealing with a range of public policy matters, including international relations, justice, health, fisheries and economic development. His newest adventure has been writing The Ravenstones while overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
As an admirer of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, he was inspired to write an epic fantasy full of discovery, intrigue, danger and higher purpose. Captivated by myths, fairytales and magic realism, and as a lifelong fan of anthropomorphic stories, inventing a world of animals who overcome doubt and discover their life’s true purpose seemed a most natural endeavor. And, as a fan of police procedural and detective stories, he wanted to create an intrepid and curious duo who face good and evil while solving an ancient mystery.
