Sue Lacey

Sue Lacey was born in 1948 in Kent. Youngest of three sisters, she was always lacking in self-confidence, spending much of her time alone with her head in a book. Books became her friends and, along with her love of animals and in particular, dogs and horses, she would lock herself away in her own little world.

When the family moved to Cornwall she was just a few weeks from taking GCE exams, but felt out of place in the new school, and so, at fifteen, chose to leave and take up the offer of a job on a farm. Being amongst ponies, lambs, cows etc., she was in her element, and back then exams didn’t seem as important as they do now!

Six years later she moved to Cambridgeshire, where she eventually married in 1973, becoming a family with one son in 1975. Any idea of further education never occurred to her until she watched with pride as her son received his degree. Beginning a journey through evening classes to achieve both GCSE and A Level English at a local school. She then ventured on, with limited expectations, to attempt an English and History Degree, finally following in her son’s footsteps by being awarded this.

By this time Sue was sixty years old, but it took nearly another ten years before she realised that perhaps it was time to put it to use. She has now done just that by publishing her first three novels, the last being a sequel to the second one, and wonders why she has waited so long to attempt something she thoroughly enjoys!!!
