I started out as a freelance travel writer with a special interest in remote landscapes and the people who live there. As time went on I branched into Scottish and local history, focusing largely on the lives of everyday folk, many of whose stories, I soon discovered, were far from being ordinary but in fact read more like works of fiction. In much of my own writing I have tried to recreate these.

In my free time I enjoy nothing better than spending time outdoors exploring the countryside but when a wet day inevitably comes around, then you're more likely to find me relaxing in a comfy chair, engrossed in a good book.
