Kathrine Mortimore

Kathrine Mortimore is currently a lead practitioner for English at Torquay Academy and is particularly interested in tackling social inequalities through education. Her most recent book 'Disciplinary Literacy and Explicit Vocabulary Teaching' is centered on moving forward those who are furthest behind by improving their literacy skills.

She have been blogging about this topic for many years here: https://wordpress.com/view/kathrinemortimore.wordpress.com. This follows research she has undertaken into narrowing the attainment gap at the University of Cambridge, and working in the context of Torquay Academy.

She has worked with Neil Bowen on expanding his range of 'Art of Poetry' books towards GCSE students. The Art of Poetry volume 6 was their first title together and focuses on the AQA Power and Conflict cluster of poems. They moved on to writing about drama texts, starting with An Inspector Calls and most recently Macbeth.
