The first time I heard a dear friend of my mother's say, "Isn't life grand!" with much emphasis on the 'GRAND', I was fascinated! This wonderful woman enjoyed her life, looking around the next corner with faith and unsinkable hope. Her 'hard row to hoe' life should have beat her down, but she refused to let it sway her optimistic attitude. Life is grand but hard at the same time. My writing is a joyful mix of these opposite ends of the spectrum. I am reminded of this dear lady often when I write. I hope my stories would have met her approval! Kicking up my heels and retiring after forty-one years of practicing nursing, I march on to my next grand adventure around the corner. My husband and I now stand back watching our grown children plot their own grand journeys! They sure don't need us to tag along but we are blessed when they travel with us. In 2019 we made a family pilgrimage to Israel and traveled into Jordan. When we are not on the road, I have the honor of volunteering as a living historian in my World War II Navy WAVE uniform. (Yes, that Navy blue wool suit is hot in the summer sun.) 'Semper Paratus'! In addition to my Navy cover on my head, I wear other hats. My free time now is volunteering as a docent for the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia.
