Have you heard of an 'accidental author'? That's me. The Offline Matters book resulted from years of writing insider accounts about the true state of work inside of the creative industries. At first these were sent out via email newsletters, under a pseudonym to keep my treasured digital profile-less self off the searches, that quickly gathered a devout following of readers suffering under the same circumstances—overworked, underpaid, and watching the dominance of ‘the digital mindset’ come to rule creative work.
From there it became clear that we were a growing body of under—and overwhelmed critical minds seeking solidarity and imagination. This is how Offline Matters was born.
Thank you for your support! Please feel free to get in touch with your own experiences.

Jess Henderson is a writer, theorist, activist, and creative strategist. While working at prominent creative agencies around the world, at just 26 years of age, Jess founded Outsider (www.outsider.works) – an insider-activist platform within the creative industries. Beginning as a subversive email newsletter titled ‘Outsider Weekly’, Outsider became a mysterious cult figure in the industry through its opinion pieces and counter-cultural ideas, experiments, and events.
Today she is a fellow of the Institute of Network Cultures and writes, speaks, and teaches workshops on the missed opportunity of offline connections and the impact of technology on our everyday lives – including at NYCxDesign week, Parson’s Strategic Design Conference, the DuPho Awards, and Us by Night Festival.
