About the Author

Kelly E. Middleton is a nationally recognized educator, author, speaker, and consultant with more than 32 years of experience serving as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. Growing up in poverty and later returning as an administrator to the very school district he once attended, Kelly's career reflects a lifelong commitment to public education, student success, and giving back to the communities that shaped him.

Throughout his career, Kelly has delivered hundreds of keynote presentations and professional development sessions at state and national conferences. He is widely known for helping schools build stronger relationships with students, families, and communities through exceptional customer service. His work has been featured in numerous professional journals, and he has developed specialized training programs for every employee group in a school district—including administrators, teachers, administrative assistants, bus drivers, food service staff, custodians, and support personnel. Kelly believes that public schools should provide a "Disney-caliber" customer service experience, arguing that creating welcoming, relationship-centered schools is essential in today's competitive educational environment.

Kelly is the author or co-author of seven books focused on leadership, customer service, and education. His book Triumph in Turmoil explores the unique strengths and "superpowers" of individuals with ADHD. Drawing from his own experience, as well as that of his two children who have also been diagnosed with ADHD, Kelly challenges the traditional view of ADHD as a disorder. Instead, he presents it as a gift that, when understood and nurtured, can lead to extraordinary success. His message has inspired educators, parents, and individuals with ADHD to recognize their strengths and reach their full potential.

His newest book, scheduled for release in the spring of 2027, focuses on the leadership mistakes he made throughout his career and the lessons they taught him. Written specifically for aspiring and current school administrators, the book explores the real-world challenges of educational leadership—topics often overlooked in traditional leadership textbooks.

Kelly's work has received both state and national recognition. Through his leadership in customer service and home visitation initiatives, Mason County Schools received the prestigious National MAGNA Award for innovative programs in 2010, the highest honor presented by the National School Boards Association. After bringing those same relationship-focused strategies to Newport Independent Schools, the district earned the Kentucky School Boards Association Peak Award in 2018 and a second National MAGNA Award in 2019. In 2023, Kelly was honored with the Northern Kentucky Education Council's Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his distinguished career in public education and his unwavering commitment to building meaningful relationships with students.
